Echo Park filmmakers go fishing for video prize

A video contest sponsored by PBS online inspired director Car Nazzal and cinematographer David Conley to create the above entry (click on the image to go to the video player) that was shot atop an Echo Park building at Sunset and Glendale boulevards. Filmed during a recent weekend afternoon, “Catch PBS Online” features Atwater Village actor Jay McClatchy fishing off the rooftop against a skyline of Echo Park homes and hills. Things got a bit tricky when the crew had to return to the roof the next day to shoot some “pick-ups” or new shots that resembled those filmed the day before but under sunnier conditions. “We rushed to get the camera rolling every time a cloud blocked the sun,” Nazzal said. “Really, it was a good shooting experience.”
