New big wheel rolls into Silver Lake

The hillside that rises behind the ARCO station at Fletcher and Riverside drives is home to an array of concrete block foundations – a city historic landmark – that once supported a Red Car street car line bridge that crossed over the intersection. In recent weeks, however, this hillside has become better known for landmarks of another kind, a collection of wooden structures, including a newly built “ferris wheel” photographed above by Diane Edwardson of the Corralitas Red Car Property blog. “It is definitely not an approved use of a cultural historic landmark,” said Edwardson, who is trying to track down the maker of these new landmarks.
