Three injured in Echo Park traffic accident

Three people were injured – one seriously – in an accident this morning at Echo Park Avenue and Sunset Boulevard that might have been caused by a pick-up truck running a red light, officials said. A Toyota pick-up truck headed westbound on Sunset Boulevard struck a Honda sedan crossing Echo Park Avenue at about 9 AM and then spun out of control and slammed into an SUV, according to preliminary information provided by police and firefighters at the scene. The person in the pick-up truck suffered major injuries, said Los Angeles Fire Capt. Buzz Clark. Officer Leo Gomez with the Central Traffic Bureau said he was still in investigating the accident but preliminary information suggested that the pick-up truck driver might have run the red light. The eastbound SUV, he noted, was stopped at the traffic light when it was struck by the truck. Tow trucks were clearing the damaged vehicles from the intersection shortly before 10 AM.
