Councilman’s Silver Lake home burglarized *

Curbed LA reports that the spokeswoman for Councilman Tom Labonge confirmed that his Silver Lake home had been burglarized last week. No details of the crime were available but Labonge lives in a section of Silver Lake where a spike in so-called “hot prowl” burglaries had prompted police to warn residents to take extra precautions. In March, LaBonge reported being approached at his home by a man that police said might have been a scam artist.

* Update: Two burglars ransacked the LaBonge home on Friday afternoon, making off with a laptop computer and jewelry worth about $3,000, reports LA Now.

“Like many other people in the City of Los Angeles, unfortunately, my family was the victim of a crime last week,” Labonge said in a press release issued this afternoon. “Two burglars broke into our home in Silver Lake and stole some personal items belonging to my wife.” Click on the link below to read the full version of LaBonge’s statement.

“Like many other people in the City of Los Angeles, unfortunately, my family was the victim of a crime last week. Two burglars broke into our home in Silver Lake and stole some personal items belonging to my wife.

“Fortunately, no one was home at the time and we are all safe. A neighbor provided a description of the burglars to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Northeast Division and they are pursuing the case.

“This has been a very upsetting event for my family, but it was a property crime. We were not confronted physically. Our hearts go out to anyone who has been a victim of violent crime or has experienced the sense of violation that comes with being a victim.

“There has been a surge in crime in the Los Feliz/Silver Lake/Franklin Hills area. I encourage all residents to enhance their neighborhood watch programs. I plan to hold another community meeting within the next two weeks to discuss the problem of crime in our
area.”
