El Sereno high school students fundraising for China trip

Each summer  for the last two years  students from  Anahuacalmecac High School have traveled to China for the Hanban Chinese Bridge Summer Camp to study Chinese culture and Mandarin. But each of the eight student the El Sereno charter school plans to send to China needs to raise $1,900. In order to help the students raise needed cash, the school’s Xokolatl Cafe will host a pancake fundraiser on Saturday, June 19. will be holding Luz Maria Castellanos, a spokeswoman for the school, explains how the El Sereno-China connection began:

“The program began 2 years ago when the co-founder of the school created a partnership with the UCLA Confucius Institute. Mandarin had been taught in Semillas schools for several years, so when they struck the partnership they open up the opportunity for the Hanban trip to China to them.”
