I am very familiar with this area of my community and to have it called “mailbox row” sort of fits what is pictured in the photo. I am not offended by this photo, as it reflects that actual image at Amethyst Street and Paradise Drive in the community of Rose Hills. I have recently been elected to serve as the President of LA-32 Neioghborhood Council and will move foward on improving this part of the community. I have made a point on a daily basis to drive this area of Rose Hills to monitor for graffitti and illegal dumping, I have also organized clean-ups in this area with help from Council Member Ed Reyes.
Just keep in mind that if it falls in the 90032 zip code then it is not in Monticito Heights, it is the community of Rose Hills which I have archived facts and history that goes back to the year 1769, well before our City or our Country had been identified. Reach me if you care for the details.

  2. That photo reminds me of the early photos of Chavez Ravine, only the street is paved.

  3. Thanks, Anthony, for the info. That hilltop seems to be near the convergence of Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights and Rose Hills. The photo was not intended to offend. I just loved how rustic your neighborhood seems.

  4. I live in the 90032 and find this picture, although accurate, very depressing.

‘THE EASTSIDER’…. you are absolutely accurate about the boundaries of the communities right at the top of Amethyst, they just about all come together within a block or two, depending in which direction you are looking. Thank you for making the effort to travel the area and for the rest that you do for Los Angeles. As far as the resident that sees this as depressing, I can say that I have worked for close to a decade on upgrading this part of the community and I get very little assistance in service. I am interested to know what part of 90032 you live in so I may find ways to be of service to you and your fellow neighbors since I am your Neighborhood Council President.
Please reach me at [email protected] so that I may share when we will have Summer events (such as this Fridays Free Movie Night) at Rose Hill Recreation Center. I would also like to invite you to our Monthly Meetings that will give you a chance to speak up about what you might need in your specific area of 90032. Thank you for your participation and I wish to work with you in the fututre.
