Shots fired near Echo Park elementary school

NeighborhoodWatchLogo.JPGNo one was injured in the Wednesday afternoon shooting near Rosemont Elementary School following a confrontation between two men. A person riding a scooter opened fire on a man near Temple Street and Rosemont Avenue in the southern edge of Echo Park at about 2:30 PM, according to Lt. Wes Buhrmester with the Rampart Division. The victim, who was not hit, did not want to cooperate with police. Buhrmester provided the background leading up to the shooting:

“Yesterday, June 30, 2010, at approximately 2:30 pm, there was a shooting with no hits at Rosemont Ave. and Temple St. A male went to a residence in the 400 block of Rosemont Ave. to confront the person living there, regarding some type of financial scam. A male warned him away, threatening to shoot him if he did not leave. The victim walked away, and a short time later at Rosemont Ave. & Temple St., a subject on a scooter fired several shots at him from a handgun, then rode away.

The victim was not cooperative, and no evidence could be found. In fact, officers located him due to citizen calls regarding the shots, and not the victim calling it in. The situation was aggravated by the fact Rosemont Ave. Elementary School is very near the scene of the shots fired. The investigation is continuing.”

The school was not in session on Wednesday.
