National Night Out mixes fun with crime fighting

Police and residents will gather tonight for National Night Out events designed to boost awareness of crime prevention  and strengthen relations between neighborhoods and law enforcement.  But the serious business of crime fighting and crime prevention is mingled with free food, music and other activities for kids and families. Events will range from a peace march through the streets of Boyle Heights, face painting and entertainment in East Los Angeles and free hot dogs and mobile eye-screening in Echo Park.
