Update on Echo Park weekend shootings

Lt. Wes Buhrmester with the Rampart Division has some more details regarding two separate weekend shootings in Echo Park  that left two people injured.

Sunday shooting in the 7-Eleven parking lot:

This crime is being investigated by the Rampart Homicide Unit and the Crimes Against Persons unit due to the wounds incurred by the victim. He is still hospitalized. The motive at this time is unknown, but not believed to be robbery. The victim is not a gang member. There may have been a dispute. Witnesses have come forward, and a composite drawing is being done, and it is anticipated this drawing will be released for general distribution after it is complete. This shooting was not related to the shooting near Echo Park.

Saturday shooting near Echo Park Lake:

Regarding this shooting, the Rampart Gang Unit is handling the investigation and following up on leads. The victim, a documented gang member, was hit in the leg and treated and released at a local hospital. There are several tips which have been received regarding vehicles involved, and those are being addressed. This shooting is unrelated to the shooting at the 7-11 at Sunset Blvd. and Rosemont Ave.
