Where to get hitched with bike-riding guests?

Kristen from Silver Lake is getting married next spring and is looking for a wedding reception location that is fun, inspiring and close by for her bike riding friends.

My honey and I live in Silverlake & just got engaged! We are looking to have our ceremony in the Spring outside under some trees either in Griffith Park or Elysian Park, and would love to have the reception in a separate fun & inspiring location that will allow booze. Is there anyone out there who could recommend a cozy spot in one of the parks &/or a fun spot for a big-ol’ party within a 7 mile radius of Silverlake/Echo Park? It’s looking like we are going to have about 150 guests, with half of them getting from point A to point B by bicycle.

  1. Grace Simons Lodge and the River Center both come to mind, although both are equally good for a ceremony as for a party.

  2. i second the la river center (for a reception and a wedding!) it’s amazing: http://www.lamountains.com/planning_river.html

  3. I’ve heard the women’s twentieth century club in Eagle Rock is an awesome space with very limited restrictions- and inexpensive venue fees…looks very cool! http://www.wtcc-er.org/

  4. I got married at Grace E Simon in Elysium Park.
You get the building the ponds and waterfalls ,a stage, parking…
    Great place!
(Too bad my marriage didn’t last….)

  5. I’m getting married next spring, and we finished the location selection process recently. We looked at the LA River location and it was really, really awesome! I would totally recommend it. We ended up going with a different location, but the river spot made it to the final 2.

  6. Skip the lodge.. and just have it in elysian. Under the trees by the lodge entrance would be really nice.

  7. The Eagle Rock Center for the Arts might also be a good candidate for a reception. http://www.centerartseaglerock.org/index.php/rental

  8. Sorry for the echo in here, but: River Center. Definitely.

Interesting option though: Union Station; the old Fred Harvey restaurant.

  9. Leo Poletti picnic area in Elysian Park, just off Stadium way.

  10. Both of the suggested Eagle Rock locations are made more accessible by their proximity to the 780/180 Busline–the most underrated and bike-friendly line in the entire MTA system: The Grove to Hollywood Blvd to Los Feliz to Glendale/Americana to Eagle Rock/Colorado Blvd to Old Town Pasadena… intersecting the Red and Gold lines and the LA River Bike Path.

  11. Thank you so much for such wonderful recommendations. My fiance & I are going to visit all of these places soon!

  12. Hi Kristen,

The Montecillo de Leo Potli is a great place in Elysian Park. It’s private (can be rented out,) allows alcohol, has an outdoor small amphitheatre, clean bathrooms, and has bocce courts. It’s just a short ride or walk up off of stadium way. If you need a photographer too, I’m a wedding photographer and Echo Park native. Good luck!
