Painter and Echo Park resident Patssi Valdez (pictured above) was among the  artists and personalities – ranging from Placido Domingo to Dora the Explorer (or at least someone wearing a Dora  outfit) – who were honored at a City Hall ceremony today to kick off Latino Heritage Month.  Valdez, along with Harry Gamboa Jr (left) and Willie Herron III (right),  were Chicano street artists who began to win attention and acclaim in the 1970s as streets artists known as ASCO.
