College dedicates mural created by Echo Park artist

Glendale Community College this afternoon dedicated a new mural created by student and Echo Park resident Manny Bracamonte. The mural, “Color Palette of our Ancestors,”  stretches 12-feet long by 2-1/2-feet tall along a wall in the college’s food court. Bracamonte, 31, a Belmont High grad now enrolled in Glendale College’s studio arts program, spent the summer working on the mural filled with “depictions of ancient Mayans and hieroglyphs, modern day graffiti art and figures representing the warrior, the dreamer, life and death,” according to a college press release. “The result is a blend of history, destiny and the path ahead.”

Bracamonte, who is also a rapper and works in the college bookstore,  plans to become a visual arts instructor. Click here for the artist’s statement on his work.
