Facebook brings old Echo Park classmates back to school

Robert Brown attended Clifford Street School in Echo Park back in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Brown has reconnected with many of his former elementary school classmates on Facebook, where he started a Clifford St. Crew page with 60 members. But instead of just hanging out online, Brown organized a reunion on Saturday, Oct. 9. About 30 former students showed up, said Clifford teacher and school historian Richard Powells, who was on hand to open the school for the gathering. Said Powells:

“They met in the library and it wasn’t long before they warmed up and started swapping stories about old times. Before heading off for a meal at Barragan’s on Sunset, they posed for a photograph in the lunch area. It was a great time.”

  1. That’s a great idea. I’m gonna try to get a Mayberry St. School reunion going.

  2. Yeah me too. That was hell!

  3. When I looked at that photo was surprised to see Miss Mason there but I had forgotten that she was the principal at both Clifford Street and Elysian Heights. It sounds like everyone had a good time. I wish I had known, my mom had been a noon-aid at Clifford in the ’60’s.

  4. David,

Join the Facebook group Clifford St. Crew and you will hear when and where the next meet-up will be. They are all eager to do it again soon.

  5. I attended Clifford in the 80’s then King and ultimately Marshall. I’d love to see my old pals and catch-up!

That was a great day. Seeing so many after all these years. Some looked exactly the same. It was so cool. Everyone should do this if they get the chance. From Elementary through college, good times are always worth sharing, especially when old memories take part. I hope we can do it again,
