Police activity in Echo Park *

LAPD police helicopter over Echo Park.Residents living near Echo Park and Montana avenues report the presence of at least half a dozen squad cars at about 7:30 PM as a police helicopter hovers overhead. One resident with a scanner said police have detained three out of four suspects in connection with a fight that broke out at a nearby fast-food restaurant, according to early information.  One of the suspects may have attempted to grab some money through the drive-thru window.  An officer at the Northeast Division station said officers were on the scene trying to figure out what happened.

* Update @ 9 PM: Sgt. Eddie Ortiz with the Northeast Division said officers have detained a group of juveniles and adults as police investigate a possible robbery attempt. He did not have any further details. Meanwhile, one reader said in a comment to this post that police tackled a person near Sunset Boulevard and Lemoyne Street, which is located about three blocks from the police activity observed at Echo Park and Montana Avenues.

“I was just eating at Masa and saw a guy get tackled by a police officer in the middle of the intersection, between xoia and masa. crazy! then, driving home, we passed by at least 7 squad cars in front of the big apartment complex. connected?”
