Save the Date: Weekend Edition

Detail, “Personal Weight,” Beth Elliott/Courtesy Future Studio Gallery

Guerrilla street artists are usually armed with spray paint cans – not yarn. But fabric artists are taking it to the streets with “Fig Knit On,” an indoor exhibit and outdoor installation at Future Studio Gallery in Highland Park.  The indoor fabric art exhibit  includes knitted and crocheted pieces (a sample is pictured above) and an outdoor display of  “yarn-bombed (aka knit graffiti)” on Figueroa Street, including  site-specific “cozies” and “soft sculptures.”  For film fans,  the Echo Park Film Center  hosts Cinekink, featuring films ranging from a look at “neo-burlesque” to a dark comedy about a part-time dominatrix.  Also, this weekend, Cal State L.A. hosts the Latino Book & Family Festival and St. Francis of Assisi Church in Silver Lake holds its parish fiesta.  Echo Park  will be the site of a workshop on how to buy your first home  and avoid foreclosure. More to do in Save the Date.
