Police officers and firefighters out and about in Highland Park tonight

LAPD police helicopter over Echo Park.A fire on York Boulevard and police activity on Monte Vista Street had sirens blaring and helicopters hovering Highland Park tonight. Residents reported that police had shut down a stretch of Monte Vista Street near Avenue 54 for at least an hour as a police helicopter hovered overhead. An officer at the Northeast Division said police had been searching for suspects but said she did not have any details about what triggered the police response.  No shooting had bee reported and officers were expected to leave the scene, she said shortly before 11 PM.

Meanwhile, firefighters battled a blaze the broke out at about 9 PM at a commercial building in the 4500 block of York Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.  The fire was put out in 37 minutes and no injuries were reported.
