Shopper & Diner Report

By Beth Zeigler

The Silver Lake Chamber of Commerce is doing their best this holiday season to keep folks out of the malls and in the neighborhood to shop, eat and hang out. The first three Friday evenings in December will be devoted to sales, specials, live bands and an all around festive time. Oh yeah, there’s a store window decorating contest to boot!

Add The Village Bakery in Atwater Village to the handful of local spots that will cook up a Thanksgiving fixins’ for your non-culinary self. And while they are offering up only sides — dinner rolls and desserts — there’s something for everyone. They even have vegetarian stuffing to pair with your Tofurkey!

  • Looking for a new restaurant to try? Why not follow the advice of Jonathan Gold (L.A.s taste tester). He recently broke down his favorite spots to grab a bite in Los Angeles and a few Eastside restaurants made the cut; Forage and La Mill in Silver Lake; Good Girl Dinette in Highland Park; and Oinkster in Eagle Rock. • Which Eagle Rock farmers’ market is better? The one with the Elvis impersonator, of course! At least that’s the deciding factor for Carrie Borzillo of Eagle Rock Patch. Check out her side-by-side comparison of the Friday night Farmers’ Market and The Rock n’ Roll mart. Carrie not only waxes poetic about which Eagle Rock farmer’s market has the biggest avocados, she lets us in on the best deals and most unique finds. Eagle Rock Patch
