Silver Lake garden needs volunteers to get dirty this weekend

A community garden now being built at Micheltorena Elementary School in Silver Lake is looking for volunteers to help plant trees this Saturday (Jan 14.) and more garden chores on Monday (Jan 16). Lia Tjiong provides the details in an email:

Time to get some dirt under those fingernails as well as do some good in the hood. Micheltorena Community Garden (located on the corner lot of Micheltorena Elementary School) and Treepeople are in need of some volunteers to plant some fruit trees this Saturday, January 15 from 9am – 12pm. And if you are lucky enough to have Monday, January 15th, off, volunteers are also needed for the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service. We will be building raised beds and digging irrigation trenches. Also at 9am – 12pm. Kids are welcome to both events under parental supervision. BYOG (Bring Your Own Gloves) and just show up!!
