A taste for tacos might get Oxy students in trouble

A story in Occidental Weekly, Occidental College’s student newspaper, about a recent assault on the Eagle Rock campus also warns students about potential problems off campus. Campus safety director Holly Nieto advised students to stay away from the Figueroa Corridor in Highland Park, the southern end of Eagle Rock Boulevard and also late night visits to their favorite food truck:

“While Nieto understands that the taco trucks are popular, she recommends driving and going earlier because this makes the trips safer. She has also observed that neighbors on the routes don’t tend to be the most sympathetic to drunken students’ late night munchies.”

  1. “She has also observed that neighbors on the routes don’t tend to be the most sympathetic to drunken students’ late night munchies.”

aka, don’t be an entitled, oblivious douchebag when travelling off your bubble of a campus.

Couldn’t have said it better, Michael. Always nice to be reminded by a stumbling drunk 20 year old that he and his classmates are smarter, richer and better than the “locals”.

  3. Let me get this straight. In Nieto’s restricted purview, it’s okay to be a drunken assbag undergrad as long as you do it from the intrinsic safety afforded either within or immediately adjacent the campus perimeter and as a bonus students get to maintain their drunken assbaggedly myopic view of society while reinforcing us/them biases.

    Nice.

Nieto’s nickname should be “Neato,” because she comes across as being not very.

I actually think the drunken kids are hilarious and have never felt like they think they are “better” then us.

I wish they wouldn’t leave as much trash on the streets, but I don’t really know if that’s them or our neighbors.

  5. Right, stay inside your car whenever possible – everything will be OK.

  6. But what if their car gets stolen while they’re in it?

  7. well they can’t drive if they’re drunk… re ‘drive there… also, neighbors don’t like drunken students’
