Police check out suspicious package at Echo Park Ave. & Baxter St.

Police tonight have blocked off traffic in both directions on Echo Park Avenue at Baxter Street. One officer at the scene said police were investigating reports of a suspicious package. Baxter was blocked off between Echo Park Avenue and Vestal Avenue near the alleyway where the body of Cesar Guerrero was left behind following a Christmas morning shootout.

*Update at 7:41 p.m.: The streets have been reopened after the suspicious package turned out to be a “backpack full of junk,” according to one officer. The backpack was left in front of the Baxter Montessori School.
