Vegan-only cuisine stages a comeback in Echo Park

KindKreme, a vegan ice cream and dessert shop, opened its Echo Park outlet today in the former space once occupied by the raw vegan restaurant Mooi, which closed late last year after only a few months. Today’s cold and rain was not ideal for frosty desserts. Still, vegans and the curious came by to check out the two-story, corner space, which will also house a vegan cafe scheduled to open on Saturday. In addition to vegan versions of ice cream, the KindKreme menu also includes shakes, juices, coffee drinks, vegan brownie sundaes and raw chocolate truffles. Even if vegan cuisine is not your thing, those giant windows overlooking Sunset Boulevard and Logan Street make this a perfect people-watching space for what promises to be a rainy weekend.

  1. menu looks good but definitely on the pricey side. 7 dollars for a 12 oz shake? a bit out of my price range but i still wish them well. ūüėČ

  2. Sounds delish! I will try it if the prices were lower. The recession is not over yet!

  3. While that sounds good, a dessert place is so specific. That’s such a great space, I really wish it could be a a cafe or something with affordably priced every day food…

  4. FYI the space is also shared by “Sage Vegan Bistro”. I haven’t had their food, but it seems Pure Luck influenced (jackfruit tacos!), and the prices aren’t too bad. I hope their portions are at least a little bigger than Mooi!
