Yoga studio coming to Echo Park Avenue

The Echo Park Avenue studio and compound of potter Peter Shire has long been a center of artistic activity. Now it’s also an emerging commercial hub.  In March, Yogala Echo Park is scheduled to open with a combination of yoga classes for toddlers as well as adults, workshops and private lessons.  Yogala  will join The Neighborhood Salon,  owned by  Ava Shire (daughter of Peter and Donna Shire), that opened up last month in one of the studio spaces fronting Echo Park Avenue.

Yogala, owned by Echo Park resident Samantha Jones, will also offer the opportunity for students to socialize after class, with an hour-long evening session ending with organic wine, cider and snacks.  Said Jones via email:

We’ll be offering a wide selection of one hour classes and family programs, it’s yoga designed for the people, the people of Echo Park and its neighbors.  We live in the neighborhood—my husband’s family moved here 34 years ago so our almost-two-year-old daughter is a third generation Echo Parker.

  1. YYYYEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS! I’ve been waiting 13 years for this. Now, can you make an early morning class?

  2. I second the early morning class

  3. yes, definitely! planning on a 6:30-7:30am class Tues & Thurs and 7-8am Mon, Wed, Fri. need earlier than that?

  4. I’m there! That’s perfect! Also, love that the early classes are 1 hour!

  5. YES!! I am so excited for a yoga studio in the neighborhood. I am a big supporter of new business in the area, so I will be stopping in to give it a try. Support Echo Park!!

  6. 1 hour is so much more human. Are prices going to be neighborly as well? This is so exiting…

  7. Iyengar, please. Late. Like 8:30 or 9 pm. Morning is not my friend. Or weekends. Weekend afternoons or late mornings would be good. Sorry to be so picky. But I just can’t imagine who would want the mornings.

  8. We’ll have late classes too! Let me know if you have favorite Iyengar teachers in the area.

$12 for 1 hour classes with class cards and monthly memberships available to bring the price down further.

  9. This is awesome.

  10. What about Kundalini? I already do Kundalini 4x week in Atwater but would love to fill in the other days at a studio I could walk to.

  11. A second vote for Iyengar!

  12. yay for yogala echo park! gonna be the bomb!

  13. Woot!! So excited to have a local studio with reasonable prices…any idea what the card prices are?

  14. Never heard of this person .
So tired of hipsters moving to the neighborhood and claiming they are generations of a long line of family members from Echo Park .
    Puhleeeeeeze !
we have all lived here since the early 50’s and don’t claim to be “generations ” of Echo Parkers ! Whatever !

  15. Here’s what we’re looking at for card pricing:

    class cards*
    $55: 5, 1 hour classes ($11/class)
    $100: 10, 1 hour classes ($10/class)
$5: upgrade to 1.5 hour class
    *no expiration

    monthly unlimited
    $120: all classes all month

  16. @koogla Shame on you for criticizing! This woman is not a politician, she does not deserve to have her words analyzed and criticized. The hair salon and this business are perfect additions to Peter Shire’s compound. Perhaps you need some yoga to get rid of the tension and negativity you are holding. 🙂

  17. @koogla
You’ve only lived here since the 50s? Newbie, please.

  18. Very excited for this new studio! The kids and family classes are an especially cool idea. Can’t wait for you to open!

  19. Live one block up the street, looking forward to walking there. I have my Ballys card but on bad Painfull days I can’t drive. So looking foward to losing the gut after losing 65 pounds. Love Shire and family. Thank You Shires for bringing this to our local HOOD. Did I understand a hair salon also???

  20. Will there be any opportunities to work at the studio for trade?

  21. Absolutely. Also possibilities of trading classes for other goods/services.

  22. We are very excited to have yogala echo park joining the business community on Echo Park Ave. Can’t wait until your classes start!

p.s. Samantha did you leave your child’s purple sippy cup at our last store event? If so we have it for you- As a trade for free yoga JK!!!
