  1. hello

can someone please tell me what was happening in silverlake last night at about 1-2:00??? i live on lucile – south of sunset and there was a police helicopter circling the area – and was so close to my apt building that the light kept shining in my window. and i kept hearing what i thought was a police car driving down the street yelling through their PA system, though i could not make out what he was saying! it was crazy! and i dont know where to look to find out what was going on.

    THANKS!

    • @ Lauren. Rampart officer said he had not details about the incident but ruled out a shooting. Checking to get more details. One person said police were focused on 900 block of Hyperion

  2. thank you for checking!

hyperion is the next block over so that makes sense

  3. A friend heard them addressing someone living/hiding at 9xx Lucile, telling him to come out and surrender to the officers. Didn’t know much beyond that.

  4. This is a sincere THANK YOU to the residents in Boyle Heights who caught the rapist of the 6 year old.

  5. That’s a beautiful pic. Atwater Village rules!

  6. I’ve been trying to find out what happened last night on Hyperion as well. It was at 956 Hyperion. They were after my neighbor so there were cops with assault rifles all over my patio and outside my bedroom window. My place was surrounded. We got down on the floor just in case there was a shoot out. It freaked me out for sure. I’d love to know what they got him for because their place is literally 5 feet from mine and there are always all sorts of shady characters going in and out of that place.

  7. Good morning Lauren,

On 03-28-11, at 1:10 am, officers received a call of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 900 block of Hyperion Avenue. A citizen reported that his neighbor, Pedro Casarez, 29, living in the same building, was playing his music loudly, so he knocked on his door and asked that the music be turned down. An argument started, culminating with Casarez allegedly pointing a shotgun at him. He retreated to his unit and phoned the police.

Officers arrived and attempted to contact Casarez. The helicopter was overhead also. Numerous attempts were made knocking at the door, but no response was obtained. The lead officer obtained Casarez’s phone number, and was able to speak with him. Casarez and one other resident exited, and were detained pending investigation.

Casarez was placed under citizen’s arrest for brandishing a firearm. He allowed officers to search his residence for the shotgun, but none was found. The other resident was released following investigation. The victim positively identified Caserez, who was subsequently booked for the misdemeanor charge at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
