Police searching for Highland Park shooting suspect *

Officers have cordoned off a section of Highland Park tonight as they search for a gunman following reports of multiple gunshots near Avenue 53 and Monte Vista Street. The shooting was reported shortly before 10 p.m.  Early reports indicate that no one was injured but an investigation is in the early stages, said an officer at the LAPD Northeast Division.

“We just heard a shooting that sounded like 15 bullets,” said one woman who lives on Avenue 53. “There are helicopters now …  There have been a rash of shootings over here and no reporting on them.”

* Update: An armed man was arrested at about 11:15 p.m., reports Patch.

  1. We’re right here on Monte Vista and Ave 52. What we heard was a bunch of firecrackers going off and immediately afterwards people clapping. Maybe it’s because the Dodgers lost? I heart Highland Park.

  2. CNS reporting that he’s been apprehended!

  3. According to via twitter HighlandPatch David Fonseca “Armed suspect was brought in during sweep of area around Monte Vista St. and Ave. 50. The perimeter lock down was lifted 45 mins ago.” I was visiting a friend on Avenue 54 at the time. Sounded like bullets to me. I have lived in my share or shooting friendly neighborhoods.

  4. my wife and i live at ave 52 and monte vista and i have heard a lot of gunshots in my life and a lot of fireworks.
these were gunshots and they were too close for comfort.
    later highland park.

  5. people are just a little parinoid. like da cops. MONTE VISTA ST. is alot safer now then ever. just alot of tagging . thats just kid stuff.

  6. Yeah, I got to agree with, uhhh, s//…??

Anyway, by no means am I condoning this type of action or behavior, but Monte Vista has improved drastically in comparison to what it once was.

Whilst I thought most of the midwestern invasion was taking place in the small craftsman homes north of York, or tucked away somewhere south of Fig, the reality is that a large influx of people moved into that area on Monte Vista between 50 and 54.

As a result, it’s relatively safe now. Still won’t catch my ass walking down there alone at 3 in the morning, but that’s from fear of triggering flashbacks from what that street used to be like in the early 90’s (along with the rest of LA during that time).

So, new residents of Highland Park, as horrible of an act it is, no innocents were hurt and the shooter was caught.

I suggest you all go back into your homes and get back to work on that screenplay you came out here to sell. Or learn those lines for that part you’re here to land. Or get back to splashing paint on that canvas being the creative you are. Most importantly, go back to making the rent in Highland Park “white people” high.

Let’s be real though…you gotta hurry up and get ready ’cause your shift at [insert restaurant name here] starts in 30 minutes!
