Streetwear & music retailer to open Echo Park shop*

Backside, a Burbank store that sells new and used street and skate clothing as well as vinyl records, is opening an Echo Park outlet on Sunset Boulevard.  The new store at 1814 Sunset Blvd. next to Two Boots Pizza will occupy a narrow storefront that has been empty for about a year since the closure of a short-lived apparel store called The Future. What will the future hold for Backside in Echo Park? A posting on the store’s website says:

Keep your eyes open, Backside in Echo Park will have free shows, signings, sales and a Grand Opening very soon.

The store owners said they will soon respond to a few questions submitted by The Eastsider. Meanwhile, they have posted some photos of construction inside the store, which is expected to open in April.

*Update: Still waiting for more details. But Eric Flores from Backside said the Echo Park store, unlike the Burbank shop, won’t be selling vinyl records. “We don’t want to compete with Origami,” Flores said of the neighboring Echo Park vinyl record shop. “He definitely has it down already!”

  1. The photos already illustrate a marked improvement over the atrocity that was The Future. Between Mooi, Masa, The Future and Lot 1, Sunset Blvd. was becoming interior decoration’s skid row.

  2. This seems like an odd choice given the proximity to Origami Vinyl.

  3. I agree with Ben.

  4. I agree w/ Ben, too.
    Origami – shop VERY local.

  5. It might not be a problem for Origami, from what I understand, Backside specializes in Hip-hop, Origami is more of an Indie-rock store.
