The art of Echo Park & Sunset

Deborah Jansen spent this afternoon in the parking lot of the Echo Park Walgreens finishing up an oil painting inspired by the sights and colors of Echo Park Avenue and Sunset Boulevard. Jansen, a textile designer taking painting classes at Barnsdall Art Park, said passersby had not been shy about expressing their opinions about her work and talking about the neighborhood. “There is a real energy to painting outside,” she said. Perhaps too much energy. Jansen was at her easel as police investigated this afternoon’s attempted robbery at the Bank of America across the street from where she worked.  But Jansen was so focused on her painting that she was not aware that a crime had taken place. However, she was thinking of adding a police car to her painting.
