What’s with all the helicopters over Echo Park?

It’s not crime related, said an official with the LAPD’s Air Support Division.  He said the choppers that have been  hovering late this morning over the eastern portion of the neighborhood near Elysian Park are with TV channels 5 and 11 as they prepare for coverage of Sunday’s L.A. Marathon, which begins at Dodger Stadium. Expect more early morning chopper noise Sunday. The first wave of marathoners leave the stadium at about 7 a.m.

  1. Really? Because the chopper I see now looks like a police one (black & white) and doesn’t have a channel logo.

second. def had LAPD on the side. no channel logo.

  3. there were varioushelicopters all morning, for sure to do with the marathon. maybe what you saw was to do with the bank of america incident.

  4. Well, all I can say is it got me up bright and early this morning. Good thing for naps! I love the the marathon, there is nothing inspirational then saying the thousand of runners descend down Elysian Park and turn on Sunset. And the professional runners are so fast that they go by in a blur.
