Murder charge filed against suspect in Echo Park killing

The District Attorney this morning charged 23-year-old Jeffrey Cardona on one count of murder in the killing of  Echo Park resident Michael David.  Cardona was one of three suspects involved the May 7 shooting that left David, a 30-year-old employee of the Silver Lake Trader Joe’s, fatally wounded near the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Logan Street. The two other suspects remain at large and witnesses are being asked to provide information, said homicide detective Chris Linscomb with the Rampart Division.  At this point, detectives believe the shooting was prompted by an argument. “It was a verbal dispute that escalated,” Linscomb said.

Cardona was not the person who shot the gun but may have been responsible for starting the argument, police told Echo Park Patch.

Anyone with information about the crime are being asked to call Rampart Division homicide detectives at (213) 484-3642 or (213) 484-3639. Those who want to remain anonymous  should call  at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).

  1. Does anyone have a picture of Michael? I frequent that TJ’s and I’m sure that I’ve met him before but can’t remember.

  2. Jeffrey Cardona, I HOPE PRISON IS A LIVING HELL FOR YOU!! Enjoy Buddy!

  3. I just hope they catch the other 2 guys, there is nothing that can take away the pain for his family and friends, but at least some portion of a little peace of mind can be had once knowing that 3 suspects are in custody, off of the streets, brought to justice and found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. And since what I really want to say in hopes for these 3 individuals in the prison system probably wont allow to be posted, I’ll just leave it at that.

  7. Much Love to Michael (Mickey) David, may his soul rest in peace. Moose, you sound like a good/great/amazing friend. I didn’t know Mickey, but I’m deeply saddened by the events that took place. It makes me realize and reminds me to not take things for granted. I’ve been thinking about Mickey since he has departed and all I can think is…Godspeed, enjoy the moment, love your family, and make it how you mean it, live on…
