Stepping out after all these years

A sign from Echo Park’s commercial past emerged this week when painters working on the Crown Shoes store on Sunset Boulevard near Echo Park Avenue uncovered the remains of a vintage sign. The painters did not know how old the sign was but it looked like it was created in an era before the Nike swoosh  covered everyone’s footwear.

  1. The store also has some nifty, vintage, green vinyl seating inside, along with one of those little seats with a slanted rubber edge so you can sit down and have someone tie your shoe for you. There is no other nifty decor inside, however. They sell some comfortable ladie’s shoes…maybe they’ll consider spiffing up the inside, and refurbishing the vintage sign!

  2. What are they doing with the old sign? I hope they keep it / re-purpose it.
