Police apprehend suspects in Echo Park school burglary*

A group of suspects believed to have burglarized Logan Street Elementary in Echo Park were the subject of a police search tonight, with a resident reporting that police apprehended one person who was hiding in her garden shed. Sgt. Alcira Solis with the Northeast Division said five out of seven burglary suspects were in custody after police units assisted by a helicopter searched the area near Grafton Street and Lucretia Avenue.

One Grafton Street resident said she was going to lock her front gate as a police helicopter hovered overhead when she heard someone jump into her yard.  She said police found one male – who appeared to be a teenager – hiding in her shed. “He was smiling” she said of the suspect as he was being taken away by police.

Another two suspects were found across the street hiding in the bushes. Officers told her they were looking for four to six persons but did not explain what triggered the search.
