One child dead in Highland Park freeway accident

A child passenger was killed late this afternoon during a two-car collision on the 110 Arroyo Seco Parkway in Highland Park.  The vehicle in which the child was riding in burst into flames following the accident at about 5:30 p.m. on the southbound 110 Freeway north of York Boulevard, said CHP Officer Christian Cracraft. The child, who was riding in the back seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. Cracraft did not have any further information on the age or sex of the victim.

The accident brought the freeway to a temporary standstill as fire equipment blocked the lanes. At 7 p.m., two of the southbound lanes at York Boulevard remained blocked.  All northbound lanes should be open, Cracraft said, but traffic is reported to be heavier than normal.
