Power outage hits Echo Park and Silver Lake *

About 1,500 DWP customers in Echo Park and Silver Lake were without power this morning in the most recent neighborhood outage to be reported within less than a week.  DWP crews were working to identify the problem and restore service to the area within the hour, a DWP spokeswoman said at about 10 a.m.  An Echo Park resident living on Grafton Street near Lake Shore Avenue said her power went out about 8 a.m. – the third outage since Friday. Power was also reported out near Montana and Alvarado streets, leaving the Vons supermarket and other nearby stores and restaurants without power, according to residents.

* Update @ 1:59 p.m.:  As many as about 1,000 DWP customers in Silver Lake are without power or will be experiencing sporadic outages this afternoon as crews determine the cause of the problem, said a DWP spokeswoman. Meanwhile,  service to about 1,500 customers mostly in Echo Park was restored at about 11 a.m.

  1. The power has been out since 7:06am; my trusty Telechron reports..

    • 08/16/2015 between 1:45 am and ~3:00 am. Clinton St near Alvarado. Residences and Alvarado signals without power. Went out for few seconds then back on few seconds then completely off. Could see lights on adjacent Kent St.

Just adding on to this string because can’t find anything about this outage.

  2. My location: Glendale Blvd. btwn Scott & Montana.

  3. My place (near Montana and Alvarado) wasn’t affected this morning, but we had outages on Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning. I wonder why the neighborhood is having all these outages…

  4. Our power up on Scott actually went out two nights ago for a few seconds as well. Wonder what’s up!

  5. Power’s out on Alessandro at Bedrock Rehearsal, power’s on at Alvarado ant Sunset. A sign on the door at Bedrock says the city said it’d be 3pm before power was back on — hopefully that’s outdated news now?

  6. No power in Vons on Alvarado, or McDonald’s either.

  7. Might this have something to do with the guys working on the utility poles in front of the abandoned condo project at Echo Park Ave and Delta? They started working last week, and one of them said they’re going to be there for a couple of weeks in all.

  8. Bah crap… 3pm??? What the heck —

The only bright spot is that right now the advertisement being served on the left side of the page is for a hard wood floors company, “lumber liquidators” located in Toronto.

  9. I’m on the hill west of the reservoir, Redesdale Ave at West Silver Lake Dr, and power is out here too…

  10. Last week power went out 3 times, the longest was 1/2 hour. Today, we lost power at 7am and as of 10:46a.m., they can’t tell us when power will be restored. This is on Logan St., across from the school. I find it interesting that when I called this morning they had no record of any reported power outages over the last week, nor did they show anyone working on the lines this morning. 3.5 hours, wonder how long my food will last in the fridge before it all goes bad!

  11. 10:54, power restored.. Glendale btwn Montana & Scott

  12. Power on Logan St. between Scott and Montana! Let’s see how long it lasts….:)

  13. Power still out near Silverado and Griffith Park Blvd.

  14. Power is still out at 11:54 at Kenilworth & Putnam. Any updates from the DWP, Eastsider?

  15. 1800dialdwp bot says power restored by 5:59pm. On Fernwood above GP Blvd.

  18. Was wondering what was up yesterday.. power went out at about 5/6am near the Reservoir (and crapped out my cable modem in the process) and they told me the same thing.. “no reported outages.” Glad to know we weren’t the only ones, as they suggested!
