Silver Lake shooting victim near death*

* Clarification: The victim, Juan David Vasquez Loma,  is technically “brain dead”  but remains on life support until family members arrive from Mexico and a decision is made about organ donation, police said. “Clinically, he’s dead”  said homicide detective Larry Burcher with the Northeast Division said on Thursday, Aug. 11.  The suspects remain at large.

Juan David Vasquez Loma, the Silver Lake restaurant worker who was shot in the head while driving on Silver Lake Boulevard Sunday morning, has died of his injuries, reports NBC LA. The LAPD said that Loma died Tuesday morning at L.A. County-USC Medical Center. Loma, a 25-year-old Mexican immigrant who worked as a busboy and waiter at El Chavo restaurant and Garage Pizza, was driving co-workers home early Sunday morning when he was fired upon from the occupants of another vehicle.  Police have said the shooting might have been a case of road rage.

El Chavo restaurant has set up a victim’s fund for Loma.
