Storefront Report: Monah Li lands in Echo Park

Monah Li, the Los Angeles designer whose “rich Bohemian” creations and boutique put Los Feliz on the fashionista map during the late 1990s,  has returned to retailing – in Echo Park. There will be no confusing Monah Li’s former location amid the  cafes and shops of Vermont Avenue with the 1200 block of Sunset Boulevard, where some other designers and boutiques have tried to establish a presence amid auto repair shops, apartments and bodegas.

A recent story in  Apparel News said that Li has revived her fashion design business after taking a detour into writing and exploring a career in drug and alcohol counseling:

She waded back into fashion by doing some freelance design for Bebe and later started work on the new Monah Li collection. It is a line of silk and rayon dresses with wholesale price points which range between $60 and $120. Monah called it sexy and romantic. They are good words to end any tumultuous story. “I’m totally happy,” she said. ”Fashion together with the writing;it’s the best combination. I’m having the time of my life.”

The shop, at 1282 Sunset Boulevard, will be from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, Li said on the Monah Li Fashion Design Facebook page.
