A Sunday drive and police chase through Echo Park

A stolen vehicle being pursued by as many as eight police squad cars and two helicopters raced through the streets of Echo Park and Angeleno Heights this afternoon before two persons were apprehended near West Edgeware Road and Carroll Avenue. An officer at the Northeast Division said the vehicle had been reported as  stolen but had no other details.  A male driver and female passenger were seen being taken into custody at the scene shortly after 4 p.m. Photographer Jordan Nuttall of Angeleno Heights rushed to his porch when he heard the sirens and helicopters overhead and caught sight of the stolen car, which he said resembled a dark Honda, being trailed by eight police cars turning from Douglas Street on to Edgeware Road.

“It was Smokey and the Bandit/ Blues Brothers over here,” Nuttal said.

Today’s police pursuit of a stolen vehicle is the third to take place so far this month in Echo Park.
