Will short-lived Silver Lake bar make a comeback?

Earlier this year, the small but well received Beer Bar at Rambutan Thai abruptly closed less than two months after it opened over a “zoning issue.”  The Sunset Boulevard bar  has remained closed since early March even though folks at Beer Bar said they expected to reopen in a couple of weeks.  But the idea of opening a bar in the same Silver Lake strip mall has not gone away, however.  Tonight,  the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council’s Urban Design & Preservation Committee will review a request for a city permit to allow Rambutan to expand into the vacant, 995-square-foot storefront next door for a 12-seat bar and 57 additional dining room seats, according to the meeting agenda.  The permit would allow the bar to remain open from 11 am to 2 a.m.

Meanwhile, on the same agenda, Cowboys and Turbans restaurant, which is located on the same block,  will also present its case for selling beer and wine.
