A weekend of soccer, Shakespeare & sustainable gardening*

Last week’s scorching heat wave gave way to cooler weather this weekend, creating  near perfect conditions for a variety of outdoor events across the Eastside. In East Los Angeles, team Revelion faced off against team Atletica Casilda during a futbol match at Belvedere Park. Meanwhile, in Highland Park, garden and urban farming fans gathered under the trees at the Lummis Home during the Urban Rancho, a sustainable garden party and fundraiser to restore the grounds that surround the  landmark home. Near the southern edge of Echo Park,  the Vesper Theatre Company staged an afternoon performance of William Shakespeare’s” Twelfth Night”  at Vista Hermosa Park. The actors will stage the play again today and every weekend for the rest of the month.

* More events: On Saturday, the Silver Lake Improvement Assn. hosted the 17th Annual Music Box Steps Day, which celebrates the 1932 classic Laurel & Hardy film short featuring a 133-step stairway off Vendome Street.  The celebration, which included an outdoor screening of the film and Laurel and Hardy impersonators, was held across the street from the stairway.
