Gold chain snatchers strike across Northeast L.A.*

It might be best to keep your gold out of sight these days. The LAPD’s Northeast Division has warned residents that three different crews of criminals are believed responsible for snatching chains off victims in Cypress Park and Highland Park. A total of nine robberies, including one in Eagle Rock, have been reported, with the most recent taking pace on Wednesday afternoon in Highland Park near Avenue 43 and Figueroa, said Lt. Steve Flores of  the Northeast Detective Division. “Multiple crews are concentrating on this due to the increased value of gold,” Flores said via email.  “A 7th crime occurred on 10/22/11 at Heliotrope & Santa Monica in East Hollywood.  An 8th crime occurred on 10/23/11 at Trent & Wawona in Eagle Rock.”

* Correction: Earlier versions of this post  quoted Lt. Steve Lopez. That’s the wrong last name. The correct last name is Flores.

  1. Was the source Lt. Steve FLORES? I don’t know a Steve Lopez…

  2. So 9 of these have occurred since september and you just got word of it..good communication!

  3. “Jesus is Here” but you still manage to come off like a self-entitled, ungrateful jerk. Perhaps the police should come to your house and inform you of every crime trend personally as soon as they realize it.

  4. It’s funny how most of them occured in cypress park and highland park. But as soon as one or two happen in silverlake or east Hollywood the press comes out. Just saying.
