It’s apparently never too early to decorate for Halloween

September was barely over when the fake cobwebs and plastic jack-0-lanterns began appearing on porches from Echo Park to Highland Park.  The rush to be the first on the block with Halloween decor has put some neighbors in a competitive mood. In  Silver Lake, a burst of early decorations found blogger Will Campbell dragging out gravestones earlier than normal:

Typically I wait until the week before Halloween before I start spookifying the place, but others on our block have started early, and you know me: always have to keep up with the Boneses!

Campbell’s neighbors may have been first with the frightful decorations but he has plans for a big finish. Said Campbell by email:  “By the time Halloween rolls around there’ll be giant bats/skulls/ghouls/flying ghosts/fog machines/scary sounds.”

  1. “…keep up with the Boneses!” lol good one.

  2. You know, by a week before Halloween, the Halloween stuff at Rite Aid has been replaced by Christmas stuff! I’m thinking people just blindly start decorating when the holiday hits the local stores …
