  1. What that letter to Chicken Corner says is interesting, but it is hardly definitive. It is all based on the reference to some water lillies. That MIGHT be Lotus plants, and it might be any other type of water lilly — which was not uncommon in a lake, you will find them in lots of lakes around. Echo Park lake was always known for its beautiful plantings (although much of that has been taken out in recent decades!), and water lillies could have been part of that even before any actual Lotus plants were added.

    Interesting, but definitely not definitive as suggested.
