Silver Lake Meadow takes off with kite fliers

Photos by Craig Collins

A lack of overhead wires, afternoon breezes and plenty of open space to run around has turned the Silver Lake Meadow into a popular kite flying spot only a few months after the park opened.  “I live across the street and down the block from the Meadow, and see lots of kites just about every weekend there is a breeze,” said Larry Kaplan with the Silver Lake Reservoirs Conservancy.  “There are lots of people picnicking, doing yoga and playing music, too.”

  1. Has Dion Neutra complained yet?

  2. The kites are great, but whats up with the model planes buzzing around noisily while you’re trying to layout and relax. i kept on imagining one of them nose diving straight into me!

  3. This meadow is better than expected and the kites just make it nicer. Feels a bit more like a European park than an L.A. park. The jogging path is a real plus to the neighborhood as well. Nice to have some good news for a change regarding the city!

  4. This little park has become the most loved little spot of green in no time at all. For all the naysayers and anti-park people who tried to stop it, please chill out, take off your shoes and admit that it is a really great place.
