The thump heard around Echo Park

What was all that thumping about this weekend?  Residents from different corners of Echo Park and Angeleno Heights – Park Drive, Lilac Terrace,  Ewing Street – reported hearing an “oontz, oontz, oontz”  – beat that left heads and walls throbbing on Friday and Saturday night.  Joanna Weissen, in a Twitter post, said:

I thought I was hearing things with all that thumping. Glad I’m not going crazy.

On Friday night, one police officer at the LAPD Northeast Division station said callers could not identify where the beat was coming from. Members of the Echo Elysian Forum blamed everything from a two-night rave at the Shrine Auditorium near USC to Echo Park nightclubs on Sunset Boulevard for what ever was causing things to go bump in the night. The beat might have been annoying but it could have been worse, said one member:

Well, on the glass-half-full side of things, I guess I admit I prefer the dance thump to the sound of gunshots.

  1. My son lives in the Gateway Apartments directly east of the Shrine where the rave event took place. He said that the windows inhis room were rattling…

  2. I live up the hill from the Bahia Club and it was most definitely coming from there. At first I thought on fFriday night it was coming from the school football field, mind you I have a view of both places. But Saturday night the football field was dark and I drove down the street to note it was coming from the Bahia Club….this isn’t the first time either.

  3. Definitely Club Bahia. I live up the street as well. At least it was over by midnight.

  4. I heard from a friend that there was a big party on Fairbanks. I was told the party host informed his neighbors.

  5. Well no wonder it took 20 minutes to get thru to LAPD non-emergency dispatch to file a noise complaint on Saturday night (rather, 1 am Sunday morning), and no wonder the dispatcher didn’t log it. And this was just to try to shut up the techno coming from the house behind me… in Highland Park. Is there a better way to file a noise complaint?

  6. Remember back in 2009, when that same email list claimed that the noise from a giant rave 3 miles away was DEFINITELY coming from beneath the Glendale underpass? Or maybe from a storefront on Sunset? Or maybe from some neighbor they don’t like?

Who needs facts or logic, when you can just call the cops, amirite?
