Police apprehend suspected Echo Park auto thief – finally

Nov. 9 police search/Photo by Jesse Saucedo

A suspected auto thief who has eluded police on at least three different occasions – including once while handcuffed – was apprehended Friday night at his Echo Park area home.  The man was the subject of hours-long police searches in Echo Park and Silver Lake  earlier this month as well as a search in the area served by the Rampart Division, said Sgt.Victor Arellano with the Northeast Division gang unit.  But LAPD finally caught up with him on Friday night. “Officers observed him at the house and took him into custody,” Arellano said. “Unknown how many cars he has stolen.”

The suspect had been previously apprehended in Echo Park on Nov. 9 near Alvarado Street and Berkeley Avenue. But after the suspect was detained and handcuffed, another man with a gun approached the officers, Arellano said.  As officers were distracted by the man with the gun, the suspected car thief, still in hand cuffs, ran off.

  1. He was probably easy to spot, since he had handcuffs on. Lol

  2. A little scarier than the Mack Sennett films shot a block away.

  3. Great news! Thanks for the update…

  4. He just wanted some Pupusas from Maya’s!
