Developer to meet with Silver Lake residents over hilltop development

A developer planning to build one of Silver Lake’s largest residential developments in recent years is scheduled to discuss the project with residents during a Wednesday night public meeting. Taag Investment recently began clearing a large parcel at Waverly Terrace and Glendale Boulevard , where the firm plans to build Waverly Terrace, a 60+ unit housing development of three-level homes with rooftop terraces.  The developer, which paid $11 million for the property last November, has not said when construction will begin on the property,  once the site of the Monte Sano Hospital & Sanitarium.  Residents are seeking information as to how the Taag will minimize the noise, dust and other environmental impacts related to construction, said resident Jerome Courshon, who organized Wednesday night’s meeting with some members of the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council. “This is our one chance to meet and discuss, before they begin major operations,” Courshon said in an email.

The Waverly Terrace project is one of three currently taking shape on the north end of Silver Lake. On Rowena Avenue, a Miami-based developer is preparing to build 45 condominiums on the site of the former Coffee Table cafe. Also on Rowena, HeyDay Partners is now building six homes in a project called Buzz Homes.

The Wednesday night (May 23) meeting is scheduled to begin at  7 p.m. at the Citibank community room, 2450 Glendale Blvd.


  1. Hope someone invites CD13, since the old Monte Sano site will be back in CD13 as of July.

  2. Cd13 has been invited to all community meetings here in Silver Lake , as well as all the Neighborhood council meetings, and just dosen’t show up. I guess Mr Garcetti has more important things to do.

    A lot of Silver Lakers and Angelenos everywhere have concluded that these Neighborhood Council meetings end up being sometimes too confrontational and whiny and not constructive or productive. Residents, city officials, agencies, interested parties would like meetings that produce ideas and results rather than just opportunities for group therapy. Hats off to those who try, though.

    Jerry: This meeting was not a “Neighborhood Council” meeting, although a few of the SLNC members were there.

    Frankly, the goal of this meeting was results-oriented. The meeting was not confrontational, nor whiny. Unfortunately, despite the Developer promising a number of things, NONE of those came to pass, and the excavations were a nightmare. (And they’re not finished.) Results can never be achieved, if one side refuses… you know? That’s the nature of life. And if residents such as yourself who purportedly care never come to things like this… well, change only happens with community support. That’s a fact of life.
