Teenage suspect arrested in Echo Park burglaries

Police this week arrested a 16-year-old male who admitted to breaking into at least three Echo Park homes during the past month as part of a burglary crew working Echo Park and Silver Lake. The teenager was in possession of a gun when he was taken into custody on Monday in Echo Park after he was picked up with two other girls who were ditching school, said Detective Mario Mota with the Rampart Division. That gun turned out to have been stolen from an Echo Park home, one of three the suspect told police he had robbed. The suspect was a member of a small burglary crew that Mota said he believes has been responsible for many residential burglaries near Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park and Silver Lake.

The suspect has been involved in the burglary of two homes immediately west of Elysian Park and another home near Sunset Boulevard and Laveta Terrace, Mota said. Some of the items that have been stolen included laptop computers and bicycles, said residents.
