Silver Lake gets a bit of detour relief

Glendale Boulevard at Rowena Avenue being prepared for reopening.

The north end of Silver Lake has been a maze of detours and road closures thanks to the construction of a major new water line under city streets.  But workers today were preparing to fully reopen Glendale Boulevard at Rowena Avenue as work on the project has gone faster than expected. Not only will the intersection reopen, but traffic will once again flow in both directions on Glendale Boulevard between approximately Fletcher Drive and Rowena Avenue after being limited to only eastbound traffic during weekdays since April.   But motorists should not get too excited. Road work will soon be shifting to other portions of Glendale and Rowena

  1. Yay, good news! The crews deserve a few words of thanks for getting this done ahead of schedule, instead of the usual complaining about how inconvenienced we’ve all been.

  2. Now if only the intersection of Figueroa and York could reopen!

The crew and DWP were great. They really worked with the residents to minimize stress and impact for those living along Glendale Blvd.
And having Glendale narrowed on one side and closed on the other brought up other issues – Glendale Blvd is being used as a freeway alternative for people traveling through the neighborhood.
I was not convinced of the need for a “road diet” on the Rowena/Glendale stretch but I am fully convinced of it now.

  4. Does anyone know why the shortcut that Rokeby provided (from Glendale to Rowena) was blocked off months ago? It was a nice, safe way to transition.
