One injured in Atwater shooting

Police are searching for a suspect who shot one man Friday night near the Atwater Village Foster’s Freeze in what police believe may have been a gang-related shooting involving narcotics. The victim, described as a male Latino in his 20s, was shot in the upper torso at about 6:30 p.m. near Fletcher Drive and Atwater Avenue, said Sgt. Sanford Rosenberg with the Northeast Division. The injury is not life threatening.

Nearby residents said the shooting took place next to the Foster’s Freeze ice cream stand at the corner of Fletcher and Atwater. Police blocked off Flecther Drive north to and other nearby streets during the investigation and police helicopter hovered overhead for several hours, resident said.

Rosenberg said the division’s gang unit is investigating the shooting, which may been over narcotics, according to preliminary information.

  1. Fletcher and Atwater? Might have been a Pulp Fiction reenactment.

  2. Do these animals have no respect for Foster’s freeze?

  3. Does anyone know what happened on friday night?

    • I was sitting at the Starbucks the next day (Saturday) and the police were still walking around the accident scene, and a photographer was snapping photos. I asked the Starbucks employee what happened, and she said there was a car crash between a police car and a “civilian’s” car, and the police car overturned.
