A place in Eagle Rock to buy pot and collect Social Security benefits

After the Social Security  Administration issued him a debit card, retiree Lido Martinez of Eagle Rock went in search of an ATM that would not charge him a fee to draw upon  his retirement benefits. Martinez called to find out the location of nearby ATMs that would be free to use  and was told there was a machine on Eagle Rock Boulevard not too far from his home.  After receiving the address, Martinez headed to the ATM to get some cash with his Direct Express card but was surprised to discover that the machine was inside a medical marijuana dispensary, reports the Boulevard Sentinel (page 6).  The Sentinel did not identify the pot shop, but a link from the Direct Express card website shows that Social Security beneficiaries can take advantage of the no-fee Money Pass ATM inside the Eagle Rock Herbal Collective.

Despite the ATM’s convenient location, Martinez could not use the machine after all; only members of the dispensary could enter the building.

    that’s it?

    heavy, dude. heavy.

  2. As if we didn’t already have enough reasons to hate pot culture – their dealers won’t let us use their ATM machine.

It’s cool though. The city will shut them down sooner or later anyway.

  3. They really should arrange it so that non members can use the ATM. Dispensaries already get such negative press, it’d be nice for them to put the ATM outside the members area as a public service to retirees.

    – mark –

  4. So blame the dispensary not the Social Security Administration for not creating some kind of deal with banks to allow for no-fee with drawls. Yeah, that seems like the right course of action here.
