A wood-sided cottage in El Sereno for $306,900 and a four-bedroom contemporary-style Silver Lake home going for $948,500 are among some of this weekend’s newly listed properties. A few of the previously-listed homes have cut prices but at least one property, a Highland Park home, has increased the asking price. Always check to make sure the open house has not been cancelled or rescheduled before you go for a look.
For those looking for homes under $300k, there are a few flipped homes in the south east end of Boyle Heights 90023. IMO safer (less gang bs) than 90063 or 90033 areas of BH.
Sunland/Tujunga also has some houses for under $300,000; the area still seems to have a bad reputation, and maybe I’m missing something, but to me there are some great values in those two areas, especially for people who like hiking and drives through the mountains (Verdugos and San Gabriels are very close).
I have lived in Tujunga for 25 years. I love it. I have a big house on a large lot and I live on a dead end street. For those who love hiking and wildlife, it is a dream come true. Crime is low and housing prices are low.
Stay away from houses close to Foothill Blvd. I would also stay away from houses too close to Sunland Park because of the homeless.
I never thought I would say this but I miss having KMart…. Since it closed we must drive out to find a general merchandise store. That often means a trip to Burbank, Glendale or Pasadena.

I personally like the Sunland/Tujunga area and you can find affordable housing but it’s not located anywhere near the eastside.
