Echo Park motel guests greeted with gusher

A vehicle sheared off a fire hydrant early this morning near Sunset Boulevard and Elysian Park Avenue, sending a gusher of water up into the air front of the Echo Park Super 8 Motel. Stephen Walker, who lives nearby,  sent in photos and an account about what happened:

“Huge wreck last night at about 1:45am at Sunset and Elysian Park Ave. A guy slammed into a car, then hit a light pole, then hit a hydrant. Water everywhere in front of the Super 8. Echo Park Fountain!”

Walker said it did not appear that anyone got hurt. It’s not clear what caused the crash.
